Mother + Daughter Team: Corporate Gifting Advice

Let your passion lead. The rest will usually fall into place.- Jessica,  co-owner of SEE Salt, on the best piece of business advice her mom has given her.

Passion has been passed down through generations for many of our merchants, especially three exceptional pairs of mother + daughter teams. Their products can be found in the Mother’s Day collection, and as a gift to their moms, we asked the daughters to share some of the greatest memories and life lessons received from working alongside their favorite business partner.

Greatest business lesson she’s learned from her mom

Whenever challenges present themselves with Goodytwos and within life, my Mom always says…  “we don’t have problems; we have opportunities.” This wisdom has been become a mantra for me.  There are many different perspectives; If I choose to open myself to the possibilities vs stay small in fear, then my energy naturally shifts to optimism, full of limitless opportunities.

Best piece of advice her mom has given her about life

To believe, stay true to myself. Embrace all the “detours” & “peaks and valleys”… Life is not about the destination, it’s about the journey!

Favorite thing about her mom

Her sense of humor!!! Unfortunately she’s usually at her funniest when she’s making fun of me, but I’ll take it. She gets a good belly laugh out of me at least once a day!

If she could describe her mom in 3 words they would be...

Altruistic, motivated, happy

Favorite memory of working with her mom

Two weeks before we were scheduled to open she had emergency heart surgery to fix complications she had from chemo treatments. She was in the hospital for three weeks and over that time, the shop had its final transformation and really went from bare bones to a fully finished bakery. Instead of heading home after her hospital release, she insisted I take her straight to the shop. She was unable to walk to the door herself, but after we got her there and she saw everything inside, her eyes watered up. I’ve literally never seen my mom cry!  It was really something. We were officially able to open two weeks after that, and at the time my mom was our only baker. She’s the definition of hardcore.

Greatest business lesson she’s learned from her mom

She taught me that it’s ok to stay true to myself. She and I are very trusting and people always advise against that in business. It’s as though people would rather assume everyone is out to “get” them and take advantage of a situation. We assume the opposite. There’s obviously risk in that, and we’ve been burned. But we would rather start off believing that people do the right things for the right reasons, and if they prove us wrong, we will know better for the next time with them. But we refuse to allow our business to force us to always be defensive.

Best piece of advice her mom has given her about life

She taught me to treat others the way I want to be treated.

  • Laugh and enjoy every moment with your babies
  • Never buy veggies in pre packaged bags, they most always will go bad 10x faster
  • You can never have too many white shirts
  • Button mushrooms are flavorless and a waste
